Announcements May 15, 2008

 

ID Cards

Anyone disfiguring or modifying ID cards will have to buy a new one for $5.00. Lanyard replacements are 50 cents. All students are required to wear an ID.  ID’s will be taken on Wednesdays during lunch time.  If you do not wear your ID you will be spending time in the SWEEP ROOM!  Starting Monday there will be a charge of $1 for a temporary ID.

 

Want to get FREE college credits this summer through CAC?  See your counselor for more information about the CAC First Step Program.  This program is open to current sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

The weather is getting warm and you are wanting dress for it.  But remember that shorts and skirts need to be finger tip length.  Also shirts and blouses need to have sleeves.  And no cleavage or stomachs should be showing.

 

Students are not to be in areas that are for staff only.  This includes the teachers lounge and the district office. 

 

Peer Tutors:  It’s getting close to the end of the school year and report cards will be out before you know it.  If need help bringing those grades up, see Ms. Mago in Room E10 for a peer tutor.

 

Book Club

We are reading Daniel Half-Human.  Pick up your copy in the library.

 

Honor Ceremony

The high school will be having its annual Honors Ceremony on May 15th at 7pm.  Please be sure to let your counselor know if you have received any scholarships or awards this year so you can be recognized at the ceremony!

 

All track athletes, please return your track uniforms to Mr. Anderson or Mrs. Walkley as soon as possible.

 

If you are interested in running Cross-Country this fall there will be a meeting in Mr. Anderson’s room on Tuesday May 20, 2008 at 3:30pm.  If you cannot make the meeting, please stop and see me. I am at the old elementary cafeteria on east campus.  

 

Library Book Return

Please return ALL books to the Library by this Friday—May 16.

Can you please add to the announcements that summer school enrollment is due tomorrow. Anyone needing forms can come by the counseling office to pick one up. Any student currently in Geometry A will need to take summer school for Geometry B or they will have to repeat all of Geometry next year

Students are not to be in areas that are for staff only.  This includes the teachers lounge and the district office.

Boys Soccer

All boys interested in soccer next season should attend an open gym weightlifting session with a personal trainer this Tuesday May 6th right after school in the weight room.

The personal trainer will be demonstrating excises to improve speed and endurance.  Invest in yourself by participating in a summer of lifting in preparation for next years soccer season…Tryouts for the indoor season will take place Tuesday the 13 at Pacana Park at 4:30 in the afternoon…

Jim Cooper Memorial Scholarship applications are now available for seniors.  Seniors must have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA to apply and must plan to enroll in at least 9 credit hours in the Fall semester.

 

Rotary Vocational Fund Scholarships are now available to seniors planning to attend a vocational school to get a certificate in medical assisting, auto repair, police/fire science, cosmetology, technology, etc.  Students must have a financial need.  Visit www.trvfa.org for application or see Ms. Rzemienski

Maricopa Chamber of Commerce Scholarship is now available.  Seniors must have a 3.0 GPA, ACT score of 22, or SAT score of 1040.  Due by May 1.  See Ms. Rzemienski for more information.

$60 per person — $110 per couple –  Open to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors.  Freshmen may attend by invitation only, or by winning a ticket in one of the three up coming drawings.

 

The theme is Mardi Gras – and it is here in the Multi Purpose Room.  Trust me – YOU WON’T RECOGNIZE THE PLACE WHEN WE GET THROUGH WITH THE DECORATING!  Great music, amazing appetizer buffet and refreshments, beautiful lights, color, sound and an outdoor bistro area where you can hear authentic Jazz music – New Orleans Style. 

 

We only have 400 tickets to sell and they are already disappearing!  You don’t want to miss this event!

 

If you are taking a guest that does not go to Maricopa High School you will need to get a guest pass approved.  You can pick up the quest past in the front office.

Dance team tryouts will take place on Wed April 30th, Thurs May 1st, and Friday May 2nd from 4pm to 6pm Students will be given a 2 day clinic where they will learn a dance routine and a pom routine. Students will perform those routines on Friday. For more information, please Contact Coach Palmer.

If you are interested in a medical career, CAVIT still has openings for Medical Assisting and Certified Nursing Assistant available. The application deadline has been extended. Get those applications in. See your counselor or Mr. Wallbrecht for an application.

 

Matthew Huffman Memorial Scholarship now available!  Seniors must have attended MHS for at least 2 years, have a GPA of at least 2.5, and played on varsity sport during the current school year in order to apply.  Deadline is April 23.

Cafeteria

Only students that eating lunch are allowed to be in the cafeteria.  If you are waiting for a friend to get through eating you will have to wait outside.

The Spring Musical is here!

 

MHS Theatre Arts is proud to present “Kiss Me, Kate” by Cole Porter and Sam & Bell Spewack. Tickets go on sale Monday April 14th. Tickets cost $7.00 for students and $9.00 for adults. Tickets can be purchased through Mrs. Vargas in room M4, through one of the performers, or at the door. Seating is general. Shows run April 17, 18, 19, 24, 25 at 7pm. Don’t miss it!

Student Council Elections

It is that time again to elect your Student Council and Class Officers for the year of 2008 – 2009.  If you are interested in running for office please pick up a form in the office.  Elections will be held on May 6th.  All students voting will be required to have their Student ID.   Seniors will not be voting.

 

So, am I in the Yearbook, or what?

Honestly, everyone asks themselves this question before they buy a yearbook.  Lots of people wait until the last minute to buy their yearbook, because they think they are not in it, and they end up paying full price!  Don’t be one of these suckers!  Drop by Mr. Allman’s room between classes or before and after school, and he will tell you exactly how many times you are featured in the ’08 Yearbook.  Then, reserve your copy for the bargain sale price of $50.  To make it even easier, you can buy your yearbook at lunch every Wednesday or Friday from April 16th through May 14th, too!  Don’t miss out!

 

Students are not to be in areas that are for staff only.  This includes the teachers lounge and the district office. 

 

Boys Basketball

Any boys interested in signing up as a free agent for this years’ Maricopa Basketball 3 on 3 draft and tournament needs to see Coach Branchik by Friday, April 25.  The 3 on 3 league will begin game play in May and the draft will be held by all returning varsity players.

Anyone disfiguring or modifying ID cards will have to buy a new one for $5.00. Lanyard replacements are 50 cents. All students are required to wear an ID.  ID’s will be taken on Wednesdays during lunch time.  If you do not wear your ID you will be spending time in the SWEEP ROOM!

 

Maricopa Chamber of Commerce Scholarship is now available.  Seniors must have a 3.0 GPA, ACT score of 22, or SAT score of 1040.  Due by May 1.  See Ms. Rzemienski for more information.

 

Jim Cooper Memorial Scholarship applications are now available for seniors.  Seniors must have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA to apply and must plan to enroll in at least 9 credit hours in the Fall semester.

 

Rotary Vocational Fund Scholarships are now available to seniors planning to attend a vocational school to get a certificate in medical assisting, auto repair, police/fire science, cosmetology, technology, etc.  Students must have a financial need.  Visit www.trvfa.org for application or see Ms. Rzemienski

 

Want to get FREE college credits this summer through CAC?  See your counselor for more information about the CAC First Step Program.  This program is open to current sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

The weather is getting warm and you are wanting dress for it.  But remember that shorts and skirts need to be finger tip length.  Also shirts and blouses need to have sleeves.  And no cleavage or stomachs should be showing.

 

Krystin Diehl Memorial Scholarship applications are now available.  Students must have at least a 2.5 GPA, have attended MHS for at least 2 years, and be involved in at least 2 sports or clubs (any combination).  Applications due May 5th.  See Ms. Rzemienski for more information.

 

Maricopa Women in Business Scholarship applications are now available.  Two $1,000 scholarships are available!! Students must have a 3.0 GPA or ACT of 22 or SAT of 1040, and must be female in order to apply.  See Ms. Rzemienski for more information.  Deadline is April 25th.

 

If you are interested in a medical career, CAVIT still has openings for Medical Assisting and Certified Nursing Assistant available. The application deadline has been extended. Get those applications in. See your counselor or Mr. Wallbrecht for an application.

 

Matthew Huffman Memorial Scholarship now available!  Seniors must have attended MHS for at least 2 years, have a GPA of at least 2.5, and played on varsity sport during the current school year in order to apply.  Deadline is April 23.

Anyone interesting in becoming a peer tutor, please speak to Ms. Mago in Room E10.  We are looking for tutors in all content areas.  Students will earn community service hours for their time spent tutoring.

The Spring Musical is here!

 

MHS Theatre Arts is proud to present “Kiss Me, Kate” by Cole Porter and Sam & Bell Spewack. Tickets go on sale Monday April 14th. Tickets cost $7.00 for students and $9.00 for adults. Tickets can be purchased through Mrs. Vargas in room M4, through one of the performers, or at the door. Seating is general. Shows run April 17, 18, 19, 24, 25 at 7pm. Don’t miss it!

 

Spring Football will begin on Monday April 28th. This is for all students interested in playing football next year. We will have a team meeting at 3:40 p.m. in the Health Classroom on Monday April 28th to handout practice schedules and playbooks.

 

Come Join the Maricopa Ram Football Team in its Quest for a Maricopa Record Setting 4th Straight Playoff Berth and a Run at a State Championship!!!

 

 

Students:  you need to attend your AC-LAB.  Your teachers are taking attendance, if you are a no-show that is ditching.  The other issue is that if you fail AC-LAB your eligibility for extra-curricular and co-curricular activities will be affected.

 

One more announcement – PROM tickets are available for purchase at all the lunches and in Mrs. Crosbie’s room before and after school.  Please see Mrs. Crosbie in M2 or a class of 2009 Representative and they can answer any additional questions. 

 

$60 per person — $110 per couple –  Open to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors.  Freshmen may attend by invitation only, or by winning a ticket in one of the three up coming drawings.

 

The theme is Mardi Gras – and it is here in the Multi Purpose Room.  Trust me – YOU WON’T RECOGNIZE THE PLACE WHEN WE GET THROUGH WITH THE DECORATING!  Great music, amazing appetizer buffet and refreshments, beautiful lights, color, sound and an outdoor bistro area where you can hear authentic Jazz music – New Orleans Style.
